Memory Boosting Foods

Research has been able to give us the information we need to keep our bodies and minds healthy. We all know that "good" foods deliver health benefits to our bodies. Foods that deliver memory-boosting benefits to our brains are found on Health.

Vitamin E

It's not enough to take a supplement, it's important to ingest those foods enriched with Vitamin E to get the health benefits. There are plenty of foods that contain this vitamin to give you the antioxidants that you need for brain health. Vegetable oil-based salad dressings are an easy way to get the vitamin into your diet. "Sunflower seeds, almonds, Swiss chard, and avocados" are some of the foods rich in Vitamin E.

Fish

The "omega-3 fatty acids" that include "docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)" is not only necessary to an infant's brain development, but it is also vital for the adult brain and its function. As the article suggests, when you eat more fish, you lessen your intake of red meats or other foods that are known to deliver "artery-clogging saturated fats."

Dark, Leafy Greens

Not only is vitamin E found in dark leafy greens, such as "kale, collard greens, spinach, and broccoli, "folate" is also part of these foods makeup. It is still unclear how folate positively affects our brains, but it is thought to lower an amino acid found in the blood, known as "homocysteine" that be damaging to our brains.

Avocados

Along with Vitamin E, this fruit also contains Vitamin C, which is reportedly "associated with a lower risk of developing Alzheimer's."

Peanuts and Peanut Butter

We all have heard about "healthy fats," and consuming peanuts or peanut butter is a great way to get a healthy fat into your diet. Vitamin E needs fat to be absorbed by our bodies, so you definitely want to get those healthy fats into your diet.

Red Wine

It is still not totally clear if red wine offers health benefits versus a healthy diet that some wine connoisseurs consume. As long as you watch your intake of any alcoholic beverage, a food-healthy diet is the vital factor to remember.

Berries

"Blueberries, strawberries and acai berries" are said to help slow down the cognitive decline of the brain as we age. Not only do they taste delicious, but they can also make a wonderful dessert. As with nuts and seeds, just be sure you talk with your physician if you have been diagnosed with diverticulosis.

Whole Grains

The Mediterranean diet is known to be a healthy lifestyle to follow. It is not only filled with everything listed above, but it also includes "fiber-rich whole grains." You will find that whole grains help enhance our blood to flow that ultimately affects our brains.

Last But Not Least: Exercise

We all know that exercise plays a part in keeping our bodies strong, and our minds alert. Here are some exercises that really work our brains, as found on University Health News. Simply picking up the newspaper or a magazine, you can help boost your brain's "attention, processing speed, short-term memory capabilities, and your capacity to recall information."

Your Individual Diet and Exercise

As we age, it is crucial to discuss any diet and exercise changes with our physicians. We are each unique individuals. What is working for one person may not be what will work for another.
